For live sport in Tokyo, start with FooTNiK in Ebisu or Osaki for a football-oriented pub, Hobgoblin Roppongi for a broader international-sport shortlist, or the exact HUB branch advertising your fixture. Book around the match rather than the brand: branch, local date, screening type, finishing time and seat conditions all matter more than a venue's general reputation. 123
FooTNiK: a useful first choice when the match is the main event
FooTNiK explicitly promotes football, rugby and other sports on large screens, with separate event arrangements for its Ebisu and Osaki locations. The Ebisu pub is at 1-11-2 Ebisu, with an operator-estimated one-minute walk from JR Ebisu's east exit. Its usual published hours are 15:00–00:30. The company notes that live sports can change operating hours. 145
That is a practical choice for someone who wants to organise the evening around a particular match rather than add television viewing to an unrelated dinner. It is not evidence that every competition, channel or late-night fixture will be available. Use the branch-specific listing and ask about any match that is missing.
The venue's Promise Seat system is the important booking detail. Its published standard price is JPY 3,500 per person including two drinks, with event-specific conditions possible. It guarantees a seat, not your choice of a particular seat; tables may be shared. Reservations are completed by payment, and the stated terms do not allow ordinary cancellations, refunds or party-size changes after payment. 6
For two people, the standard published arrangement therefore starts at JPY 7,000 and includes four drinks between them. This is a calculation from the reservation terms, not a quotation for a specific match or a complete dinner budget.
The useful trade-off is certainty versus flexibility. Reserve when being seated matters more than retaining the freedom to change your evening. Before paying, select the correct branch and event, and read whether that listing changes the standard arrangements.
Hobgoblin Roppongi: compare the sport and the kitchen timing
Hobgoblin Roppongi lists five large screens and coverage including Premier League football, rugby, Formula 1, UFC and Australian rules football. It also accepts requests but describes them as something it will try to accommodate, not a guarantee. The address is 3-16-33 Roppongi, on the first floor of the Aoba Roppongi Building. 2
Its ordinary published hours are 17:00–midnight on weekdays and noon–midnight on weekends and public holidays, with the kitchen closing at 23:00. That distinction matters when the plan is "dinner and the match." A television remaining on does not establish that a late food order will be possible. 2
My recommendation is to eat before the kitchen cutoff when the fixture starts late, rather than making the entire meal depend on half-time. For an especially early or late international event, obtain explicit confirmation of special opening rather than extrapolating from previous tournaments.
The venue's reservation page also warns that seating preferences may not be met. It asks late arrivals to make contact and says an uncontactable booking may be cancelled after fifteen minutes. A table reservation is therefore not automatically a promise of your preferred sightline or permission to arrive whenever kickoff occurs. 7
Tell the venue that watching the named match is the purpose of your booking. That gives staff a chance to identify a competing broadcast, an unsuitable seat or an opening-hours issue before you travel.
HUB: choose the branch with the right programme
HUB's branch pages are useful because they publish sports schedules alongside location information. The main Shibuya branch is in the basement of Ichigo Fiesta Shibuya at 3-10 Udagawacho; the separate Shibuya Center-Gai branch is at 22-2 Udagawacho. These are not interchangeable entrances to one pub. 38
Look for the exact branch on the individual sporting-event page, rather than assuming every HUB shows everything advertised by the chain. The location nearest your hotel may have a different programme from the one mentioned in a search result.
A particularly important condition appears on HUB event notices: the operator warns that a broadcast may not continue until the end of the match. Its notice for the 30 October 2026 Geelong–Western Bulldogs screening includes that warning, as well as the possibility of changes or cancellation. This is a reason to ask about complete coverage, not a prediction that your chosen event will be interrupted. 9
For a casual afternoon viewing, a convenient branch with the right listing may be enough. For a final, deciding race or knockout match, I would make full-event coverage a condition of the plan. Ask about extra time, penalties or an overrun when those could affect the finish.
Confirm these details before paying for the evening
Send one concise message containing the teams or event, competition, intended Tokyo date and number of people. Ask whether the showing is live or recorded, whether the complete event will be shown, and whether commentary will be audible in the language you need.
"Do you show football?" is too broad to resolve any of those questions. A venue can truthfully answer yes while showing a different competition on the night you arrive.
For an overnight broadcast, write the calendar date as well as the time. "Saturday night at 01:00" is an avoidable source of misunderstanding; identify the actual date on which 01:00 falls. Distinguish doors opening from the broadcast start and the sporting event itself.
Then ask what the booking buys. It could be entry, a seat, a table, food and drinks, or a combination. FooTNiK's published terms demonstrate why the difference matters: a reserved seat does not mean a freely chosen seat or a private table. 6
Visitors travelling with children should obtain the branch's admission conditions for the specific event. Do not interpret a general restaurant listing as confirmation of a late-night event's arrangements.
Plan the return journey before the first whistle
Work backwards from the possible finishing time and check the journey to your actual accommodation. Include walking to the station, the required interchange and the possibility of the sporting event running longer than scheduled.
For a late finish, make a deliberate choice between leaving before the end, arranging another way home or selecting accommodation within a manageable walk. The cheapest entry price may not produce the cheapest evening once the return journey is included.
For a group, agree on that plan before the match. Otherwise one person's need to leave can become everyone's unexpected decision at the most important moment.
The strongest shortlist is therefore not a ranking of Tokyo's loudest or most famous pubs. It is the venue that confirms your exact event, offers the viewing arrangement you need and leaves you with a workable journey afterwards. Start with the options above, then let those practical answers decide where you watch.
